TIE Interceptor (T/I)
The TIE Interceptor is the big brother of the T/F. You can either fly the T/I
like a T/F with only two lasers linked, then you must be a master of the techniques
used in the T/F because the hull of the T/I can take more than one direct hit
by two lasers, or you link your lasers to quad lasers. This is rather different
from flying a T/F, because you can't do a continual fire like in the T/F for
two reasons: First your quad lasers do not fire fast enough and second, they
will be empty too fast. So you should try to get you opponent from a distance
about 1.9 to 1.6 clicks with short precise single quad laser shots, only a full
hit by four lasers will finish him off with one shot, so shoot and dodge. Don't
do more than two shots while flying in a straight line if you are in a distance
under 1.8 clicks. You can leave your lasers to quad until your opponent is directly
in front of you or change to two lasers linked in a distance under 1.0 clicks,
remember you'll have to hit him then at least twice, but you have the advantage
of a higher frequency of laser shots and maybe something vital (like lasers
or flight control) gets damaged by the first hit. During cycling minimize your
lasers and remember the distance of 0.25 clicks to turn back to your opponent,
a single shot of all four lasers and he is gone. If you get directly behind
your opponent, it is often very difficult to kill him although you give him lasers
over lasers because of lag. Try to take two lasers linked and shoot directly
above him, the distance above is experience, but it works even with lag. You
won't be able to see him then, so watch your radar carefully, else you will
shoot into the lonely vacuum. When you fly a T/I from a distance to several
T/I spinning around each other always use two lasers linked to shoot, because
the possibility to get one or more is bigger with a higher frequency of laser
shots when firing at spinning ships. When you get under 1.0 clicks and the spinning
ships are very slow you can sit and target them with your quad lasers and finish
them off. BUT be careful, experienced players will spin and wait while others
get closer, as they know that the one behind them can't get them easy if they
do not face him directly by turning around and so they will wait for someone
approaching from a distance who is looking for an easy kill and finish him off
when he does not even think about this possibility because he thinks they are
in a in fight.
